Improvement of Water Sector Performance
This documentary tells the state of Ghana’s water sector by documenting the progress made, challenges and way forward while bringing greater visibility to the relevant issues of the sector.
Current national coverage of water supply is estimated at 59.5% (rural-59% and urban 60%. Whilst financing has been recognized as a major constraint, improved sector management is seen as requiring attention in order to meet Government of Ghana’s commitment to reach 85% by 2015, a target above the MDGs (76%). The Action addresses the key issues of sector performance for achieving the MDGs and reducing poverty in Ghana and is therefore of strategic importance for improving the overall framework for increased access to affordable services for the poor.
The Water Directorate of the Ministry of Water Resources, Works and Housing aims at implementing the National Policy and improving the Water sector performance towards achieving the national targets as well as the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
